Bags of Hope is Spirit of Hope's local mission project. The members of the church contribute food and personal items in order to distribute these to the Denver homeless.
We all have seen people standing on the side of the road with cardboard signs asking for help. Often times we avert our eyes because the problem seems either too large for us to do anything about or we are just afraid of the person.
Individually we can do little but the great thing about being a member of a church is that together we can make a difference.
Spirit of Hope assembles ready to eat meals for the homeless. Once the bags are filled, members of the church carry a few with them each day on their way to work, school, or the store. When we see someone in need we pull over and offer them one of these meals.
In each of these bags there is contact information, an invitation to come to church, meet Christ, and a prayer from an individual in the congregation.
It is wonderful to see the expressions on their faces as they receive these meals. Some of our members have "regulars" that wait for them in specific locations giving them a chance to build relationships. The best part of Bags of Hope is that now church members actively seek to be the hands, feet, and face of Jesus everyday in the world around them!
